Outstanding at Oulton Park

Jack Goff continued his podium run last weekend in Rounds 7 & 8 of the Air Asia Renault Clio Cup at Oulton Park and took his maiden victory in front of a crowd of more than 30,000.

After his success at Thruxton at the end of April, Jack arrived at Oulton Park confident and ready to continue his Championship chase.

Saturday’s qualifying session saw Jack as one of the fastest men on the track, securing third on the grid for both races only 0.1 second off the pole sitter.

Round 7 – Saturday

Jack, who is gaining a reputation for his lightening quick starts, was straight into second off the grid before a lucky James Colburn squeezed past putting Jack back into third place.

Round 7 of the Clio Cup then unusually turned into a rather processional affair with Jack maintaining a strong third place and securing his third podium of the season. After the race he said ‘There was a little bit of contact on the hairpin on the last lap but I survived and held onto third. I am really pleased with today’s result, I am confident that I can build on this in Round 8.’

Round 8 - Sunday

Sunday’s Round 8 of the Championship was held in tricky and unexpectedly damp conditions but Jack, who appears to have no fear of a wet track, had another strong start and was again up to second from the start. He was on the tail of front runner James Dixon from the moment the red lights went out and he took the lead on the run up to the first corner of the second lap.

From this point on, Jack led the race and left the rest of the pack behind as he drove off into the distance, winning his first ever Clio Cup race by 5.6 seconds, the biggest win margin of the season so far.

Jack said ‘I could see that Dixon was breaking quite early so I decided to make the move and it paid off, then I just got my head down and built up a gap. It’s a fantastic result for myself and the team, my 3rd podium in a row, 4th podium of the season and my first win! I can’t wait for Croft on 18th & 19thJune!’

This fantastic result was also boosted by the news that Jack also won the Graduate Cup and was awarded Driver of the Weekend.

Last weekend’s results have seen Jack jump up to 5th position in the Championship just 50 points from the top spot!
